The advancement track shows how many coins they get, plus any building or outposts that indicate that they get additional income. Even though Above and Below has a quite a lot of pieces to it, setup isn’t to bad really. These things happen. You managed to escape and now you’ve found a new place to build a new village. The player should declare that they are done so that there is no confusion. There’s not too much and it gets done quickly. One of those know your crowd kind of things. Any villager can be used to harvest a good. Then 4 of each are drawn and placed to the right of the shuffled decks.

The main feature here is the House cards and Outpost cards. In the game, you send your villagers to perform jobs like exploring the cave, harvesting resources, and constructing houses.

The cave cards are shuffled and placed face up next to the board. You can only rest the number of villagers equal to the number of beds you have. The rest of the villagers are shuffled and placed in a stack next to the board. Refresh goods on buildings and pass the first-player card to the left. Setup isn’t to bad, it’s just making enough space on the table for all the cards to be laid out while also giving the players enough space to build out their villages. Players will rest their villagers. Each player gets a player board that will be the center piece that their village is built around and provides information of turn actions and helps organize villagers in the actions they take. The House cards being what represents the village itself and the Outpost cards being what represents progress made in exploring the caverns. I like to have fun with the stories and really play them up, but for some it’s just the worst to pay attention and immerse yourself into the game.

Each player will receive a player board, 7 coins, 1 starting house card, and 1 of each of the 3 starting villagers. This is the part where to many villagers can be a problem.

With a decent amount of time in-between turns people tend to know what they want to do on their turn. You also must pay the amount of coin listed.
