I went there because I like Calumet Bakery in Illinois and this one is closer.
I didn't realize there were bakeries that charge full price for day old items.
The filling was stupendous, the butter cream frosting was amazing and the design of our t-shirt on the cake was just the right touch. Why do I see more pastry than filling???

Calumet Bakery just happens to be located right along the main walkway of Pierogi Fest...and what better way to cut the buttery and seasoned flavors of pierogi (essentially Polish filled dumplings) but with some sweet Paczki (essentially a Polish donut, resembles a filled Bismarck) from this bakery. The customer service was friendly however. (No way a truck is going to make it from Chicago to Whiting quickly during morning rush hour) she then advised that she had one leftover from the day before so I purchased that one and a doughnut.
Holy cow!!!! The cakes get made at their Lansing, IL location so if you are near to there, stop in because I"m pretty sure that one is a bit bigger and offers more items to walk in for. Give this out of the way place a try...just off Indianapolis Avenue in Whiting Indiana. Everything is always fresh and delicious here. The taste though was AMAZING, red velvet with cream cheese frosting. Ordered a retirement cake recently. They are out of this world! 219-473-9560

Really??? Remember Calumet Bakery takes the month of August off each year just as the Pierogi Fest ends...it is their summer vacation. Still nothing. They have a much better customer service. They have a couple of tables inside the store if you wish to eat your treasures there, or you can take them home. They offer multiple other cuisines including American, Dessert, and Bakeries.
As for the other bakery items...they are also very nice.

Still a great place for desserts! Once a year I go here during Pierogi fest. Don't get me wrong, this bakery serves wonderful pastries but they really need to improve on customer service and stop selling day old items at full price! Closed Sunday and Monday, Whiting This is a full line bakery...they even have loaves of bread and birthday cakes...and they sell pretty much anything you might want...they even can sell you a cup of coffee in the morning. Nice bakery & I wish them well cause they are a mom & pop but honestly they are an average bakery . Everything I tried has been excellent - cookies, donuts, apple slices... Oh my ! The list goes on and on.
