The Rose River Loop Hike begins at Fishers Gap Overlook in Shenandoah National Park’s Central District. Night two could be spent at a big clearing up the hill just before getting to Rose river Falls. If you wanted to do this in 3 days two nights you could camp the first night at Rock Spring Hut. Rose River Falls is often overshadowed by it's more popular cousin, Dark Hollow Falls, as both hikes begin at the same trail head. This was the only trail in Shenandoah National Park the we hiked multiple times. Never been to Shen before - Park is beautiful, will definitely be back to explore more.

I made this loop into a 3 day 2 night because my group was inexperienced, and the drive in was exhausting.Only two spots to camp and limited water sources bring a filter. I was in awe seeing the outline of the cloud shadows below and watching the hawks floating in front of me. I saw a mother bear, two cubs, and no humans for the better part of 2-3 hours. But it wasn’t difficult to get to Rose River in 1 day.

It is really special. I did this trail in 2 days and 1 night. Okay, yes, it is both uphill and downhill that you must hike. Our friends Ann & Steve almost ran right into them as we were hiking down the road. Along the fire road, about half way is the Cave Cemetery. This four mile loop offers an abundance of waterfalls, streams, and pools and is the perfect Shenandoah day hike in any season. Awesome loop, very highly recommend. Note there is a 6-7 mile stretch between Big Meadows and Rose River that doesn’t have water and has a huge ascent, so plan ahead there. On the trail it felt like FOREVER but once we hit the top of Rose River falls theres a trail that lead up to a nice clearing with plenty of flat ground to pitch your tents and plenty of water to stock up on. About 0.6 mile from the start, the horse trail turns off to the left, while the loop trail continues straight ahead on the blue-blazed trail.

Horseshoe trail was the most isolated of the bunch. The best place to view the falls is at a rock outcropping where you are looking down at the top of the falls. Overall, a highly recommended hike. You get to see to waterfalls on basically one trail. Great 2-nighter with fantastic waterfalls and a ton of variation. +1 on previous review.

First day we made our way to Rock Spring hut, beautiful wildflowers, fungi and insects a macro-photographer's heaven. We were visited by a VERY friendly 4pt Buck and a young bear in the morning. Be sure to follow rules for back country camping and bring enough water. Soon after the bridge crossing you will need to ford a stream.
