Good seawatching continued in Lancashire, with another juvenile Long-tailed Skua past Starr Gate on 3rd and Sabine's Gulls past Blackpool on 5th and Fleetwood on 7th. Bearded Vulture, Crowden, Derbyshire (Tony Hovell). An impressive flock of more than 30 Ring Ouzels kept the Bearded Vulture company at Crowden, Derbyshire.

In a significantly quieter week for Lincolnshire than of late, the highlight was a juvenile Pectoral Sandpiper at Frampton Marsh RSPB from 5th. The Dungeness Glossy Ibis was present all week. An Arctic Warbler remained at Cullivoe, Yell, until 4th, with a new individual at Voe, Mainland, on 5th. As anticipated, autumn smashed into the Northumberland coast with full force this week and, as is often the case, Holy Island was ground zero. This week saw no fewer than three new juvenile Semipalmated Sandpipers – highlights of each and every autumn we are lucky enough to be graced with their presence – with the individual at Hayle Estuary from 2nd undoubtedly the most popular.

In Belgium, a Great White Pelican was at Arendonk on 7th, while neighbouring The Netherlands held a new Black-winged Kite – the female Amur Wagtail remained in situ at Strypsche Wetering.

A single Leach's Storm Petrel was noted passing Papa Westray on 4 and a first-summer White-tailed Eagle was on Hoy on 5th. An island often visited simply as a means to getting to the more famous Unst, another Tennessee was reported from Breckon on 5-6th. Purple martins have started leaving their nesting houses. Beautiful migratory songbirds, like rose-breasted grosbeaks, will be migrating through our area on the way to winter homes from southern Mexico to Peru. Several Sabine's Gulls were seen around the north and west coasts.

Bardsey Island, Gwynedd, hosted its own from 3rd, with another in Shetland at North Roe on 5th.

Arrivals peaked on 3-4th, with no fewer than eight Red-breasted Flycatchers in the county between Hunstanton and Winterton, Olive-backed Pipits at three sites on 3rd, Arctic Warbler in Wells Woods on 4-5th and Little Bunting at Old Hunstanton on 4th. Long-billed Dowitchers were at Lough Beg, Co Antrim, Tacumshin, Co Wexford, and Lytchett Fields RSPB, Dorset, while a Cornish Semipalmated Sandpiper remained at Godrevy Point until 1st. Turning out attention to leggy suspects, in Gwent, Goldcliff Pools NR's Glossy Ibis continues to show, while other reports at Ferryside rugby pitch, Carmarthen, on 4th and Kidwelly from 6th presumably relate to one individual. Again this week many other notable birds were seen, namely Eurasian Spoonbill, Ruddy Shelduck, Arctic Tern, Caspian Gull, 12 European Shags, Black-necked Grebe, two Red Knots, Curlew Sandpiper, 2 Wood Sandpipers and 2 Little Stints … and breathe! Another Nearctic visitor in Ireland was a brief Swainson's Thrush, found sat on a curtain in a house on Dursey Island, Co Cork, on 1st. It is the third record for the famous island, after a two-day bird in October 2009 and a cracking one-day adult male in September 2014. Another possible was at Loch na Cille, Argyll, on the same date.
