I think my rating for The Toll is around 3.5 and as much as I love the series as a whole I don't think I'd round The Toll up to 4 stars. While The Toll does bring the series to a semi-satisfying conclusion, I did feel that 200 pages could have easily been trimmed from it to better streamline the tale. You know when you're so excited to read a book and then you finish it and you're left feeling pretty... whelmed? After a Gruffalo or a Tyrannosaurus, what could be more deliciously scary than Julia Donaldson’s.
