The first photo is of a colour-ringed Ouzel which was ringed as a breeding female in Glen Clunie in 2013. There is still much to learn and the early attempts to track Ring Ouzels on migration from Scotland to North Africa and back are described. The adult male is all black except for a white crescent on the breast and a yellowish bill. The importance of Britain as a stop-over and refuelling area for Fennoscandian birds on passage in Spring and Autumn is stressed. Particularly distinctive is the male with his pale wing panels and black plumage contrasting with a white gorget (a white crescent on the upper breast). The male sings its loud and mournful song from trees or rocks. They are most often seen on a distant rock making a rattling chatter which is their alarm call. She was outrageously in your face and at times I had to retreat to maintain focus and not overfill the frame!
